I was using some neighborhood errands as an excuse to get on my bike, and Lin, now 4½, said she wanted to come along, so I threw the two-up seat on the bike, bundled her up, and we headed off.
I was afraid she would complain of being too cold, or that she would be too frightened by the speed and the wind and the engine noise, but I should have known better. She’s a thoroughbred after all, born of a biker Mom and a biker Dad, and she loved it. Her first time on a bike, and she understood.
“You can go faster if you want, Daddy.”
“Wow, turning is fun!”
“I don’t want to go home yet. Can we ride over to Owen’s house?”
“OK, what about Go & Kazu’s house?”
“When it gets warmer, can we go somewhere far away?”
“Go! Go! Go!”
“Let’s ride just a little more, Daddy!”
“OK, we can go home for lunch, but then we need to ride some more.”
I’ve created a monster. And I couldn’t be prouder. That’s my girl!
Congratulations, Lin. Your adventures have just begun.
